District Attorney Amy Weirich wowed the crowd at the Northeast Shelby Republican Club meeting on Monday evening. She gave the crowd an update on two very important current events in Shelby County. First, she spoke about the 12,000 untested rape kits in Shelby County. She then reassured those in attendance that everything that can be done is being done as it pertains to the Galilee Memorial Gardens Cemetery case.
She ended her discussion by encouraging those in attendance to contact their legislators and ask them to vote IN FAVOR of the following bills:
SB1391 and HB1259 – As introduced, provides that a mother can be prosecuted for an assaultive offense or homicide if she illegally takes a narcotic drug while pregnant and the child is born addicted, is harmed, or dies because of the drug.
HB1524 – Requires a photograph of a victim of a violent crime, taken prior to the crime, to be admitted at trial during the state’s case-in-chief if the victim is unable to testify or be present at trial.
We are honored to announce that Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich will be our guest speaker on March 17.
DA Weirich was a career prosecutor for more than 20 years. Her mission is to do the work that truth dictates and justice demands. She fights hard to make our community safer and has had outstanding results since taking over for DA Gibbons.
